This report presents a summary of the questionnaires completed by fishermen in Scotia-Fundy for the 2001 fishing year. Questionnaires were distributed to fishermen and stakeholders during the fall of 2001, and during face-to-face meetings with fishermen at association meetings and consultations.

Questionnaire Respondents’ Profile. Completed questionnaires were collected between November 2001 and January 2002 from 56 fishermen who fished the eastern Scotian Shelf, NAFO Subdivisions 4VW (27 completed questionnaires) and the western Scotian Shelf, NAFO Subdivisions 4X5Y (29 completed questionnaires) during the 2000-2001 fishing period.

All completed questionnaires used in these summary results were scrutinized and verified as to source of respondent. Questionnaire respondents all came from Nova Scotia fishermen who fished with various mobile and fixed gear sectors by size (see Figure 1 below). Mobile fishermen reported that they fished throughout the year, while fixed gear fishermen concentrated their fishing effort during June to September.
